Chia seeds snack induce short-term satiety

In a study published in Nutr Res Pract. 2017 was examined the effect of chia seeds (Salvia Hispanica L.) added to yogurt as a mid-morning snack on the level of satiety and short-term food intake. Yogurt without chia seeds, yogurt with 7 g of chia seeds and yogurt with 14 g of chia seeds were administered to 24 subjects on different days of testing.
The VAS scores (visual analogue scale) reported by patients at lunch time indicate significantly lower levels for hunger (P = 0.033), prospective food consumption (P = 0.031), amount of food that could be consumed (P = 0.017), desire for sugary foods (P = 0.015), and higher levels for satiety (P = 0.031) on test days with 7 g and 14 g of chia seeds. Energy intake during lunch ad libitum was significantly lower when they consumed yoghurt with chia seeds (P = 0.037). The study showed that consumption of chia seeds as a mid-morning snack can induce short-term satiety in healthy individuals.
