Low-FODMAP dieta promotes weight loss and reduces symptoms in fibromyalgic and overweight patients

In a study published in Nutr Hosp 2017 the effectiveness of a four-week low-fermentable carbohydrate diet (FODMAP: oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols) was demonstrated in controlling irritable bowel symptoms in fibromyalgia and overweight patients ( n ° 38). From the analysis of the data obtained from the various evaluation tools used such as FSQ (Fibromyalgia Survey Questionnaire), IBS-SSS (Severity Score System) and VAS (visual analogic scale), a general improvement of fibromyalgia-related symptoms including pain and a reduction in waist circumference ware recorded. The results were highly encouraging.
