Poppy seeds as protease and collagenase inhibitors

Poppy seeds (Papaver somniferum L.) can be considered as a food rich in biologically active compounds, with antioxidant and protease inhibitory activity. As reported in a recent study, aome genotypes also showed high inhibitory activity against trypsin, thrombin and collagenase. Poppy seeds are therefore a valuable source of natural compounds useful in the pathological states associated with oxidative stress and increased protease activity.
