Gymnema sylvestre and metabolic disorders: new evidences!

A 2017 study published in Am J Chin Med confirmed the hypoglycemic action of Gymnema sylvestre. The effects on male mice of his extract at 100, 250 and 500 mg / kg body weight analyzes were analyzed, in disorders of metabolism (insulin resistance, adipose dysfunction and hepatic steatosis) induced by the high-content diet of fat. It was discovered that Gymnema was able to significantly suppress body weight gain, serum lipid levels, insulin and leptin, and favored the reduction of adipose tissue and hepatic inflammation. Gymnema has also shown hypoglycaemic effects due to the amylase inhibition activity. The results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of Gymnema as a functional food supplement with preventive effects against metabolic disorders.
