Ketogenic diet extends longevity

Low carbohydrate diets are associated with a shift from glycolysis to beta-oxidation. In a recent study published on Cell metabolism 2017, the influence of a ketogenic diet on the longevity and health of experimental mice was evaluated. Mice assigned to a ketogenic diet significantly increased the average lifespan and survival compared to control group mice. In elderly mice, only those who observed a ketogenic diet regimen showed significant retention of motor function, memory, and muscle mass.

This study showed that the ketogenic diet extends longevity and health in mice.
