Fibre intake reduces the risk of incident chronic kidney disease

In a new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition 2018 the association between dietary fiber intake from fruit, vegetables, cereals and legumes and risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) was evaluated. The prospective study on 1630 subjects observed for 6 years, initially without CKD, showed that high fiber intake (5 g / d), mainly from legumes and vegetables, can reduce the occurrence of CKD.

Data were normalized by age, sex, smoking, total energy intake, physical activity, diabetes and use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.
