Associations of fats and carbohydrate intake with cardiovascular disease and mortality

In this very important epidemiological study published on Lancet 2017 it is shown that a high carbohydrate intake is associated with a higher risk of mortality from cardiovascular diseases, compared to fats.

Total fat and types of fat were not associated with cardiovascular disease, myocardial infarction, or cardiovascular disease mortality, whereas saturated fat had an inverse association with stroke. In light of these results, global dietary guidelines should be reconsidered.
